We were on call as always over the Bank Holiday weekend and it was a busy one! First call out was a trip to Glemsford late Friday night, to secure a problematic back door. Saturday we fixed a lock in Norwich, gained entry in Carlton Colville for a chap home from the gym and a late evening dash to rescue a lovely lady from her office! Sunday we gained entry in under three minutes for a family, just home from a day out. Monday, all was quiet so we got to put our feet up :)
We hope you had a lovely May Day Holiday Weekend. Remember even with the sun shining and the warmer weather approaching, secure doors and windows upon leaving your property.

As part of their National Home Security Month initiative YALE have published a series of tips on how best to protect your property. One common vulnerability are Eurocylinder locks, which are fitted to most UPVC doors. Here is what YALE have to say:
What is lock snapping? "Lock snapping involves snapping the lock cylinder in two, by applying force, and removing the outside part to expose the lock mechanism. Doing so provides access to the mechanism, allowing the door to be unlocked. Thieves use tools like hammers and screwdrivers to snap the locks and, worryingly, it can take just seconds to gain access. This technique does not require experience or skill, merely brute force. The locks most at risk of this type of attack are fitted with a euro profile cylinder. Euro profile locks are found in the majority of PVCu and composite doors installed in the last 15 years and operate in combination with a multipoint lock". Attributed Source: YALE #NHSM NP Security Solutions fit Anti Bump, Anti Drill, Anti Snap and Anti Pick Eurocylinders where this level of security is required/requested. We recommend these for front and back doors especially. As always we are more than happy to advise you of your options. Although these can be seen as a cheap alternative, they are only for internal doors and offer low level security. They do not comply to British Standards. We have made a short clip featuring our Locksmith Nigel Parsons, opening a 3 Lever Lock using just two pieces of wire. We urge everyone to check that their locks conform to British Standards and if any doubt, consult a reputable Locksmith. This is a service offered free of charge by NP Security Solutions. This time of year we start to lock everything away in our garden sheds again, so it is the ideal time to check it is secure. Start with your shed door; are the hinges exposed on the outside? If so criminals can unscrew the hinge, taking the door off completely. Fit security screws to prevent this.
If your shed is secured using a padlock and hasp, ensure these are of very good quality and are not vulnerable. Make sure all valuables, such as power tools are not visible through your shed window, if a criminal can't see it, they are less likely to try breaking in. Are the contents of your shed included on your home insurance? Check your policies, as power tools can be expensive to replace. Finally are your garage locks adequate? Consider fitting British Standard locks to the side door of your garage and again check if your insurance policy insists on this. Side doors are often more hidden and attractive to burglars than the easily seen, exposed front door of a garage. It is important to us at NP Security Solutions to keep investing in new technology and materials. The latest member of our team comes in a roll, has one third the tensile strength of steel and is incredibly strong and sticky! Any guesses? Call NP Security Solutions today on 01502 377017 Your trusted, local 24hr Locksmith. Moving home is one of the most stressful times for many people. Statistics from a survey conducted by the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network found that 82% of us do not consider new locks when we move in.
We offer a free assessment to ensure the correct locks are fitted to windows and doors and to identify any vulnerable areas that may require maintenance. In all the fuss and confusion of moving home, do not neglect the security of your home, family and belongings. Many home insurance companies now require that all five lever locks are to be BS3621. This lock should be able to resist drilling and cutting using standard tools for five minutes and resist manipulation (lock picking).
All windows should have locking devices and new home owners must change the locks to their new property. If the property is entered by a previous owner who still has a key, or via a lost key, it could be classed as deception rather than theft and can make your insurance claim invalid. |
